The European Security Systems Association (ESSA) is a
neutral institute which provides clear and uniform test
methods, standardization and certification for manufacturers
of safes, vaults and their related locks. These burglary and
fire resistance tests are randomly carried out by VdS, the world’s leading security testing facilities in Germany. ESSA / ECB-S safes have become the benchmark for insurance underwriters around the world.
Only ESSA certified safes adhering to these strict requirements
will display a blue ECB-S label. This gives commercial and private consumers an important orientation aid in distinguishing between high-quality and mediocre products and services. Listed are the most
important features of the safe; to which standard it has been
tested, the certificate number, the resistance grade, the weight
and the year of fabrication. This ECB-S certificate offers buyers
the guarantee that the safe complies with the world's highest
standards and provides demonstrable security. All Burg Wachter Safes are fitted with this mark of excellence.
ECB-S certified safes are given a security rating of Grade 0-13, S1 or S2
based on their overall construction. This number indicates the amount of
recommend cash and valuables one may expect to be covered by insurance
underwriters. The security measures taken at the location where the
safe is secured may allow these levels to fluctuate. For safety purposes, safes weighing less than 2200 pounds are required to be anchored securely to the floor or wall in order to protect as intended.
